In the new case, the Associated Press reports a former employee from Ukraine has been charged by the U.S. attorney’s office. He is accused of stealing digital currency during a testing phase for Microsoft’s online sales services. Twenty-five year old Volodymyr Kvashuk is said to have stolen the digital currency and resold it to receive $2.8 million. He intended to use the money to buy a $1.7 million home and eventually planned to steal a total of $10 million. Microsoft discovered the situation and fired Kvashuk in June, 2018. However, the following investigation into his practices took over a year and he was arrested earlier this week (July 17). He is now awaiting trial.
NFL Scam
Earlier this month, a former Microsoft executive was jailed for conducting a scam around the company’s partnership with the NFL. Jeff Tran, a former head of Microsoft’s sports marketing division, will serve twenty-eight months for the scam. Tan pled guilty earlier this year to using fake invoices, fake Super Bowl tickets, and for wire fraud. Tran created a scheme that saw him attempt to take $1.5 million from Microsoft. He sold 75 NFL tickets and 99 tailgate tickets for the 2016 and 2017 NFL Super Bowl. All the tickets were intended for Microsoft employees as part of the company’s partnership with the NFL.
