According to MyDrivers, the release will come via an event in China, and will be adapted for that market. A leaked document suggests that both devices will adopt an 18:9 aspect ratio and feature the Snapdragon 835 processor. They’re also predicted to have dual back cameras, water and dust resistance, and no headphone jack. Instead, audio will route through a USB-C port. The Nokia 9 will apparently come in two variants. One will offer 64 GB of internal storage, and another 128 GB. Both variants seem to feature a 5.5″ edge-to-edge QHD display, and 6 GB of RAM. Despite those specs, rumors suggest the phone will be affordable. Leaks put the price at CNY 3,699 ($560) for the 65 GB model, and CNY 4,199 ($635) for the other. That’s significantly lower than most premium flagships and may be enough to compete with the One Plus 5T, which retails at $499.
Many Unknowns
Still, there are still too many unknowns to get truly excited. There has been no word, for example, on camera specifications. It’s also not clear what the battery life hours will be, though its rumored to be 3,800 mAh in capacity. In fact, it a wider release hasn’t even been confirmed. It’s not 100% clear if the device will launch in the U.S. and Europe, or if Nokia will target Asia. Though the handsets specs look good, it would have heavy competition from Samsung and LG in the same month. Despite this, HMD Global seems to be on the right path with Nokia. The company is putting out a ton of new hardware. At the lower end, the Nokia 2 looks promising, and the company also has its fingers in smartwatch technology. However, the company still hasn’t recovered from a rapid stock dip in October. Share price fell over 15% on October 26 after the company announced falling revenues in its telecommunications business. If it does well, the Nokia 9 could restore some faith, but its ability to compete remains to be seen.
