Microsoft has been providing in-country Azure services in China since 2012, via a partnership with 21ViaNet. It was two years later in 2014 when the first cloud regions went live. As with all Microsoft datacenters, the region allows the company to deliver cloud services with native support.
Expansion
That means Azure, Dynamics 365, Power Platform, and Office 365. With the new Azure region, the company plans to expand its cloud offerings in China during 2022. Specifically, Microsoft plans to add support for Azure Arc, Azure Availability Zones, and Azure Pureview. “Microsoft’s intelligent cloud, the most comprehensive approach to security in the world, has been empowering hundreds of thousands of developers, partners, and customers from both China and the world to achieve more with technical innovation and business transformation. The new Azure region will further reinforce Microsoft’s capabilities to enable and empower innovation, growth, and discover opportunities across the business, ecosystem, and a future with sustainability.” Microsoft offers 200 global datacenters across regions, covering over one billion customers in 20 million organizations. As cloud becomes more important, Microsoft has committed to building between 50 and 100 datacenters each year.
