Also during the HIMSS conference, Microsoft will discuss healthcare-specific abilities coming to the Teams collaboration apps. Elsewhere, new health-record integration tools will be showcased for Azure and Teams. The Microsoft Healthcare Bot service has been in development since 2017, when it was introduced as a research project. Through implementation of bot technology, users can create solutions for health services. From chatbots to AI-powered assistants, the service has increased potency in preview. Through its GA launch next week, the Microsoft Bot Service will integrate with Electronic Health Records. Microsoft says current customers creating bots through the Healthcare Bot service are Kaiser Permanente and Quest Diagnostic. As for Teams integrations, Microsoft says new group-chat features are coming to mobile that are aimed at healthcare workers. Specifically, a new secure messaging and smart camera solution will be available. Microsoft is also adding a priority notification system for urgent messages, so users can delegate importance of notifications. However, the company lists this ability as “coming soon” with no firm release.
Azure
In terms of Azure-powered tools, Microsoft will showcase an application programming interface for Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource (FHIR). This will allow users to exchange and manage data in the FHIR format. An API and platform-as-a-service (PaaS) for fetching data to the cloud securely will be offered by Microsoft. The company will give customers tools to integrate FHIR-enabled electronic health-record data with Teams.
