It seems Microsoft finalized its new Search experience through the release of Windows 10 version 1903 (May 2019 Update). However, the search app improvements are currently hidden. New features include the ability to search within applications and across recent activities. With Windows Search now independent of Cortana, users should be getting a more complete tool. Microsoft said an independent Search app allows deeper development of the service through bespoke updates. As mentioned, the new Windows Search experience is currently hidden in May 2019 Update builds. Windows Latest has reported a work around to activate the app, but it does require making edits in the registry.
Open Registry Editor and find: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search\ Click on “Search folder” and Right-click to choose >DWORD Value (32-Bit) with the name ImmersiveSearch. Double-click the DWORD and change its value data to 1. Now find: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search\Flighting\ Right-click the Flighting folder and click on New. Give the new folder the name “Override”. Select the Override folder, right-click on the right pane and select New>DWORD (32-bit) and name it “ImmersiveSearchFull”. Set the value to 1. Create a new DWORD (32-bit) and name it CenterScreenRoundedCornerRadius with the value set to 9.
Check the App
Once this is done, restart the File Explorer and check out the new Windows Search application. As noted, you will need to be running Windows 10 version 1903 for the app to work. It is also worth remembering that editing the registry should always be done with caution. We only advise this path to users with experience.
