The next major feature coming to Skype’s app is Snapchat-style photo filters. Insiders can now add weather data, location information, themed overlays, and more. It’s an experience several messaging apps have adopted recently, including Facebook’s Messenger. Thankfully, it appears Microsoft is working on more than a clone of other services. It’s also working on vital improvements to its messaging experience. Insider builds show the company will let users add GIFs, locations, and more when chatting, as well as improving the layout to display more messages.

We can get an idea of what those changes will look like thanks to the previous update for iPhone. As well as the return of the main menu bar, Microsoft made the following tweaks:
“Chat headers are reduced in size to increase the number of messages you can see at once Chat headers have presence indicators The compose bar was redesigned You can use the plus button on the bottom left to easily add things to your chat like photos, your location, money, and one of the many add-ins Emoticons and emojis are combined for easier access”
These features will roll out to non-insiders and presumably Android phones soon. It’s clear that Skype still needs a lot of work, but at least the team is listening to some feedback.
