The Chinese chip maker is still making x86 smartphone chips based on Intel’s doomed Atom architecture. The processor is named Airmont and will ship this year as an eight-core version of Atom. The Spreadtrum Airmont SC9861G-IA is designed for mid-range devices, but it is more powerful that Intel’s original Atom processors. Intel is showing off the handsets that are coming later in the year at the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2017....

Jarvis is an application that borrows the best elements of Apple’s Spotlight service. If you are unfamiliar with Spotlight, it is the search function used on Mac devices. It is a universal OS-wide feature that searches across apps, files, and the web. Simply put, Spotlight is significantly more powerful and functional than Windows 10 search. With that in mind, Jarvis offers the same abilities as Spotlight, but implanted into the Windows OS....

In the webcast (47:20), someone asked the CVP of the Microsoft Operating Systems Group whether or not Windows 10 ARM would be coming to the Microsoft Lumia 950. Belfiore responded tersely, saying “no”. He then explained that Windows 10 ARM is a “desktop PC experience”, not a phone-like experience. Furthermore, Belfiore added that Microsoft has Windows 10 Mobile for phone-like experiences on ARM. Lenovo is better known as a PC or smartphone manufacturer, but its X1 ANC Headphone is a good entry into the audio peripheral market. Launched at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 today, the accessory has been tuned by Dolby and promises enhanced audio capabilities. Other features include noise cancellation. Lenovo has modelled the X1 ANC off its ThinkPad laptops. Other interesting specs including a collaboration with Synaptics AudioSmart, which Lenovo says means a boom-less six microphone array with Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation and Electronic Noise Cancelling headphones....

The Verge reports the trial between Epic and Apple (Epic Games v. Apple) that Microsoft landed some peers in trouble while fighting its case with Apple. When trying to get xCloud accepted, the company pointed to other streaming apps. Microsoft argued these apps, including Shadow, do what Microsoft was trying to do. During the trial, Microsoft’s head of business development for Xbox, Lori Wright, explains what happened after: “I believe [Apple] ended up pulling Shadow out of the App Store based off this email we sent until they submitted changes....

Redmond says it has agreed a transaction to purchase Bonsai, a Berkeley, California-based company. The AI specialist has been on Microsoft’s radar for some time. Indeed, Microsoft Ventures (recently rebranded as M12) previously invested in Bonsai. The company is known as a platform for training autonomous systems. Microsoft says integration with its own services make Bonsai an even more potent tool. “Bonsai’s platform combined with rich simulation tools and reinforcement learning work in Microsoft Research becomes the simplest and richest AI toolchain for building any kind of autonomous system for control and calibration tasks....

The two companies have been working behind closed doors on a Cortana – Alexa integration. More specifically, the two rival virtual assistants can now communicate with each other. Due to be announced today, the development would let users speak to Cortana using Alexa, and vice versa. SAP SE and Microsoft sent out a press release saying that the latest collaboration will see further cross-company integrations. Among them is SAP’s S/4 HANA database being used to run Microsoft’s core internal financial planning. In the other direction, SAP will now run more than a dozen critical internal financial systems on Microsoft Azure. “We are taking our partnership to the next level with this new capability to run S/4HANA in the Microsoft Azure environment,” said SAP CEO Bill McDermott....

Sony’s contention to the deal rests on Microsoft taking control of major franchises – most notably Call of Duty but also Warcraft and Candy Crush – and making them exclusive to Xbox Game Pass.
