Several Windows 10 features and integrations have been announced for Chrome since Microsoft joined Chromium. The reason for cross-browser integration is because both Microsoft and Chrome are now working on Chromium. We can expect to see Edge features land on Chrome, and Chrome features to come to Edge. So much so, at some point it may be harder to tell the two browsers apart. We are not there yet, but more Windows 10 tools are coming to Chrome....

Now, Microsoft has announced a new feature for its Power BI service, called ‘View Related Content’. Thanks to this new feature, users will be able to quickly and easily check out content that is related to the report, dashboard, or dataset they are looking at. The new feature is already available in all regions as a preview. That said, users should be aware that bugs might show up. Microsoft encourages users to provide feedback in the Power BI community forums....

According to senior program manager of Azure Christine Avanessians, Microsoft is seeing three common topologies emerge: 2. Multiple organizations, private: This is the true consortium scenario where each organization will have its own footprint and subscriptions, Azure AD tenants, and regions are all different. Given enterprise IT requirements, the services deployed must not be publicly accessible on the internet, even though communication will occur across organizations. 3. Aaron Greenberg is working with Larry Hryb (Major Nelson) to put together the Xbox FanFest. The marketing chief confirmed the event via Twitter and it seems this year will follow the pattern of previous FanFest events. Microsoft’s full Xbox press event at E3 2017 is only open to members of the media and select others. However, the Xbox FanFest is more open access. It allows the general public to attend some key moments of E3, such as the press event....

As ZDNet notes, a recent survey by Kentik saw 40% of organizations using more than one provider. The 310 business large survey was published earlier this year from quizzing at an AWS event, so is naturally biased. RightScale’s numbers say 84% of its respondents use multi-cloud strategy, with an average of close to 5 clouds. Much of this is down to the slightly different strategies of providers. This year, Microsoft has been moving increasingly into AI, and that’s where much of the difference is....

Microsoft says it is now a premium sponsor of the Open Source Initiative (OSI). In doing so, the company is joining other major competitors such as Google, Facebook, and IBM. The decision furthers Microsoft increasing love of open source in general. We have seen the company embrace Linux after once calling the platform a cancer and warning it threatened development. “Today’s announcement represents one more step in Microsoft’s open-source journey, and our increased role in advocacy for the use, contribution, and release of open-source software, both with our customers and the ecosystem at large....

More than that, Outlook.com is receiving a revamped Mail section that looks different. In the coming weeks, the new Mail interface will come to all users with its updated UI and added features. Among them is Skype integration after Microsoft re-introduced the service to Outlook.com in January. Performance will be quicker and add-ins can be added to Outlook easier. Users will be able to integrate services like Evernote, PayPal, and more in a more efficient way....

Specifically, SharePoint communication sites are coming to Office 365 customers on the First Release branch. Microsoft says over the next few months, it will release the new ability to all Office 365 subscribers. With SharePoint communication sites, users can share information within an organization. By creating these in-house microsites, customers can share reports, news, updates, and other valuable information. Communication sites are also interactive. Users can share and embed content such as video and documents....

Motherboard has expanded its investigation into the situation and found Microsoft also allow contractors to listen to voice commands on the console. Several third-party contractors have confirmed they are told to listen to Xbox One users. For the most part, user recordings are monitored from commands given to the Kinect camera that shipped with the original Xbox One. As Microsoft has already confirmed it allows contractors listen to Cortana, it is not surprising it extends to other services too....

The situation is hardly much of a surprise, although it remains interesting that 10th anniversary celebrations won’t include the person who actually created what’s being celebrated. In a blog post, Microsoft’s Sylvie Liu said the Azure team collaborated with Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center to create the new feature. By tapping into Microsoft machine learning technology, Fusion can spot attacks in their early stages. Alerts of security teams allows time to prevent threats from escalating. “Preventing such attacks in the first place would be the ideal solution, but with the new trend of ‘ransomware as a service’ and human-operated ransomware, the scope and the sophistication of attacks are increasing — attackers are using slow and stealth techniques to compromise the network, which makes it harder to detect them in the first place,” says Liu....

It turns out the former is the case. Microsoft is now rolling out a new Windows 11 preview build to the Dev and Beta channels. Specifically, this is build 22000.132 and brings the integrated Microsoft Teams experience. You will also find the new Snipping Tool in this build. As predicted the new feature is complete replacing Skip & Sketch and taking some of its abilities. It is also worth noting the Mail and Calendar apps have also been updated to reflect the new “Flow” design language of Windows 11....

The Digital Equity Data Dashboard is the work of the Microsoft AI for Good Lab and Juan Lavista Ferres, Microsoft’s Chief Data Science Officer. It runs on the company’s Power BI app. The tool works by aggregating public data taken from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Census Bureau, BroadbandNow, and Microsoft’s own information from Broadband Usage Data. It automatically tracks 20 different indicators of digital equality by going from census tract-by-census tract....

In fact, Visual Studio 2022 Preview 3.1 is a cumulative update that makes two important fixes to the platform. Specifically, the native Windows 10 antivirus tool is warning against blocking telemetry through editing HOSTS files. Telemetry data is information on the system that on Windows 10 is gathered by Microsoft as part of the Connected User Experience. The platform is connected to Microsoft, allowing information about the device to be sent to the company. With this information, Microsoft can see hardware specifics of the machine, including storage, memory, CPU, and configuration....

While its fair to say most people have never heard of Peter Skillman, he has had a major impact on Microsoft and tech in general before joining Redmond. Indeed, before joining Microsoft Skillman was best known for working with Palm and Nokia. As VP of Design for Palm he was at the helm of webOS and introduced the platform to the world. Later with Nokia, he was part of the development team behind the scrapped MeeGo OS....

Discovered by Microsoft watcher WalkingCat on Twitter, the documentation suggests the company is preparing a preview release. The documentation details two release channels for Microsoft Edge on Chromium. One is Microsoft Edge Canary, with Canary referencing Google’s preview version of Chrome. The other branch is Microsoft Edge Dev. Looking at the details, it looks as though Microsoft will limit Edge Insider Preview to Windows 10 64-bit. When available, the browser is expected to run on Windows 7, Windows 8....

Google, it seems, is a major influencing factor in this decision. The Chrome team announced a temporary halt to its stable builds on March 19 as schedules adapt to the global pandemic and new work from home requirements. “This week, majority of our team found ourselves in a fast changing time keeping social distance from each other (not to forget, part of our team has been experiencing it for a while),” said Chrome developers on Twitter previously....
