Windows Latest reports users are reaching out to Microsoft Surface and Support Twitter accounts for help. What’s interesting about the battery issue landing on the Surface Laptop 2 is that this is Microsoft’s newest device. It is less than a year old. Users on Microsoft Answers forums say they have owned the laptop only for months. Users say when affected devices are shutdown at night, the battery loses around 25% of its power. When a device is shutdown, it should not be losing around a quarter of battery. It seems firmware updates have caused the problem, so a new firmware update is likely on the way.

Intel PROCHOT Problem

Earlier this month, it emerged Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 6 devices are throttling speeds because of an Intel flag called BD PROCHOT that manages thermal control. Users are complaining that Microsoft’s Surface products are throttling processor speed down to just 400 MHz. It seems the processor throttling is not a problem on Microsoft’s part. Instead, the problem is caused by an Intel CPU flag called BD PROCHOT. This is a flag that can be set by peripherals and instructs the processor to reduce its speed in an effort to manage system temperature.
